You win the opportunity to deliver this basket and money to a very deserving cause; Children In Transition

Currently, Clarkston High School has 36 children registered as Children in Transition (CIT). We have more unwilling to come forward. In the Clarkston School District, we have over 100 registered as Children in Transition.

Children in Transition are students who are:

Sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing or economic hardship, or a similar reason;
Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations;
Living in emergency or transitional shelters;
Abandoned in hospitals;
Living in public or private places not designed for or ordinarily used as regular sleeping accommodation;

Living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, transportation stations, or similar settings; or
Homeless children and youths mean individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes children and youth who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; living in motels, parks, or campgrounds; or children or youth who have a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as sleeping accommodation by human beings; or children or youth living in cars, abandoned buildings, substandard housing or similar situations; or migratory children living in circumstances like those described above. %u201CSubstandard housing%u201D may be determined by considering factors such as whether the setting in which the child or youth is living lacks water, electricity, or heat; is infested with vermin or mold; lacks a working kitchen or toilet, or presents unreasonable dangers to adults, children, or persons with disabilities. Migratory children living in conditions described in the previous examples.
Unaccompanied youth means a youth, not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian and includes youth living on their own in any of the homeless situations described in the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act.

Our goal is to provide resources for these students to have access to basic needs such as food, shelter, hygiene, and emotional support to continue to thrive as an individual.

Through CIT we can offer many services to our students. We feel if they have the basic needs met they will be more successful in their education goals. We have developed a food pantry for our students and a clothing store (Bantam Buckle) which provides the opportunity for students in need to shop for free and receive clothing of their choosing. The Bantam Buckle is a place for students to acquire clothing to meet their immediate needs. They can find shorts, shirts, or shoes for PE class or dress clothes for an interview. We offer showers and laundry services. CIT offers the ability for us to provide our students with ability haircuts and any other services based on the student%u2019s needs.One of the newest services we now have is the ability to help students pay for their driver%u2019s education course. This is a huge hurdle financially for many students and now we can ease that cost. CIT has provided cars for students to use and trailers for our students to stay in. We can extend financial support for any family emergencies that may arise throughout the school year.

Funds that are donated to the CIT program are in an ASB account which monitored and is handled according to the regulations of the state of Washington ASB laws. These accounts are reviewed annually by state auditors. We must provide documentation for all revenues and expenditures. Even though these funds must be approved by three different stages we continue to be able to provide and maintain the anonymity of the students we can help.

This program is such a benefit for our Clarkston High School students. We involve the community, family, and education to support our students and help them reach their personal, educational and professional goals.
